Mathematical Reflection

Learning mathematics is like climbing a wall, sometimes simple and sometimes difficult. Fortunately, Mrs. Sobearji , my 7th grade math teacher, really sparked my interest and confidence in the subject because of her engaging teaching style. I believe mathematics is integral in early education because it promotes logical thought and attitude, helps support other disciplines, has cross-curricular value, and has far-reaching practical application in everyday life. I have had only minimal experience teaching math, so I am eager to learn some useful methods and tips from this class. At my job, I work with addition and subtraction concepts and on counting and adding up numbers to 10. Working with my special needs first graders, I try to make the subject enjoyable by telling stories with my pennies or small figurines to help them count, and when I see someone who has been struggling finally understand, that is my mathematics joy! Additionally, I hope to motivate, inspire, care for, and teach my students the value of learning math, especially when concepts get tough and they feel like giving up. Moreover, I intend to gain the skills and knowledge to teach my learners effectively, so they appreciate math and its practicality. The content I absorb from this course will give me the confidence to explain mathematical concepts clearly, and hopefully. I’ll always have the answers at my fingertips to best help my students solve problems.
