Alexandra From California

Hi! My name is Alexandra, the name given to me by my parents because it can be easily pronounced in both English and German (thanks to my dad’s thick German accent). You can call me Alex! Basically, I’m a rescuer. I especially like helping kids, which has led me to the job I presently hold. I work as paraeducator for special needs children ages 8, 9, and 10 years old for the Ventura County school district. These children are moderate to severe in their disabilities with autism, down syndrome, cerebral palsy, and epilepsy to name a few. My professional relationship with them is very fulfilling. I enjoy seeing them happy and seeing their eyes filled with satisfaction at the small feats they accomplish.

I’m at a cross road right now in my life in that I feel I need to be more than a paraeducator. I decided to go back to school to get my credentials to become a special needs teacher because of what I have learned at my job. I think I can be a great asset as a teacher to these children.

To pass the time I enjoy boxing, a newly found hobby that I do at a boxing gym. If I can fit it in, I try to go four times a week. I also enjoy billiards and play on a league team.

I’m looking forward to this class and to learning more about all of you!
